At an early age, Cornelius made his Profession of Faith; he was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed denomination and was presently a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Cornelius J. Spoelstra, son of Jacob & Emma Boot Spoelstra was born April 15, 1924 near Peoria, Iowa. He attended Pella Christian Grade School and Cherry Grove School near Peoria. He married Elvera Willemsen on Feb. 26, 1948 in Pella, IA. He farmed his entire adult life near Pella and New Sharon; in 1991 he retired, moving to Oskaloosa. He is survived by his wife, Elvera, two daughters, a son and their spouses: Marilyn and Lauren Vander Molen of Harvey; Carol & Stephen De Ronde of Oskaloosa and Robert and Donna Spoelstra of New Sharon. He was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Michelle & her husband, Eric Fopma; Daryl, Renae & Kayla Vander Molen; Brian & his wife, Courtney De Ronde, Brent, Heather, & Kyle De Ronde; Logan, Hayley and Cole Spoelstra; and two great grandchildren: twins, Jacob & Noah Fopma. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Arie & Wilma Spoelstra of Oskaloosa and Harold & Freda Spoelstra of New Sharon; one sister & brother-in-law, Edith & John N. Van Zee of Pella and a sister-in-law, Johanna Willemsen of Pella and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister and a brother-in-law, Warner Willemsen.
