Description	:	FOLEY, Cornelius Patrick - 93, Oxford, Nova Scotia passed away suddenly Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of the late Frank H. and Katherine M. (Crowley) Foley. He came to Streets Ridge from Massachusetts at the age of four to live with his mother's twin sister, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Crowley and her brother Jack, on the family farm. Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of the late Frank H. and Katherine M. (Crowley) Foley. He came to Streets Ridge from Massachusetts at the age of four to live with his mother's twin sister, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Crowley and her brother Jack, on the family farm. He obtained his BA at St. Mary's University, Halifax, in 1929. He also graduated from Truro Normal College in 1931. He taught school in Halifax County and Streets Ridge until 1948. Following this, he operated the family farm until retiring and moving to Oxford in 1964. He was elected to the Cumberland County Municipal Council for four consecutive terms (1961-1973) and was a director of the Springhill Vocational School Board from 1966-1973. He was a devout member of St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church in Streets Ridge throughout his lifetime. He had an astonishing ability to remember dates and events and thoroughly enjoyed recounting family history beginning with the arrival of his Irish grandfather, Cornelius Crowley in Streets Ridge in 1841. His amazing recollections to family members was the primary resource for a recently completed 200 page historical report on the Crowley family. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are nephews, Bob Geddry, Indiana; Jim Geddry, Oregon; numerous cousins primarily in Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, the former Mary E. Duggan; brother, Francis; sisters, Gladys Conway and Marion Geddry. The remains are resting in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford, with visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church, Streets Ridge, Father Slawomir Baraniak officiating, followed by cremation. Interment in St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Streets Ridge. Donations may be made to St. Cornelius Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.
