Gwinn, one of the prominent and highly respected citizens of Alderson, passed away Friday morning at 2 am after a long illness of stomach trouble. He was born in Monroe County, WV, on 25 Jan 1847. He is survived by a wife and three children, Mrs G. A. Miller, of Hinton, WV, Mrs A. A. Kirkam of Victoria, VA, and George H. Gwinn, of Maben, WV, also by his brother, G K Gwinn, Mrs Mary E Lewis, Misses Sally and Dora Gwinn, all of Alderson. Mr Gwinn has lived in this immediate neighborhood all his life except 18 years when he lived in Great Bend, KS, where he was engaged in the lumber and banking business. He was Mayor of Alderson when the bonds for paving the streets of Alderson were sold. He was a member of the Methodist church and also a Knight Templar. He served in the Confederate Army. He was a very public spirited citizen, favorable to all public improvements that had the betterment of the public in view. He was an original thinker well posted upon all the leading topics of the day kind and generous to all charities and loyal in his friendships. He was always on the right side of all great moral questions sympathetic in sickness and distress. He also had a very warm heart for the old Confederates, going out of his way to do them a kindness. In a few words his character was that of a good clean man. Alderson has lost a good noble citizen and his wife and children have lost a devoted husband and a doting father. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm conducted by Rev G G Beery and Rev R B McDanel. Contributor: FG# 48825891.
