Never before has such a concourse of people gathered in this county for a funeral as cam to do honor to this lad's memory Sunday. Fully 500 automobiles were on the street at one time. The body was shipped from Hoboken on Thursday and reached Rockinghom Friday morning accompanied by a private. The heavy casket was draped with a huge American flag, and this flag was presented to the parents of young Sears, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Sears, of Pee Dee Mill village. The casket was carried from the depot to the Watson-King establishment,, undertakers and at the request of the parents there opened for their private inspection. It was then carried to the home of Mr J.B. Sears where it remained until Sunday afternoon. Promptly at 3'oclock Sunday ex-service men of the county to the number of 85 assembled at the courthouse and at 3:10 the funeral cortege met them. The line of march then began to the Methodist church, headed by the color-bearers; next came the Rockingham brass band, 16 strong, playing a suitable funeral march and then came the hearse with three pall-bearers waling on each side. 4 of these were fellow-members of Co.B 120th infantry, they being Alex McQueen, Hollie McDonald, Willie McNair and Sam Huett. The other 2 were M.J. Pate and W.J.Spence. The service concluded at the church and was resumed at Eastside cemetery. Waiting at the cemetery were many hundreds of people, probably 2000. Claude Sears was the son of Mr and Mrs. J.B. Sears and was born in Moore county Aug. 14 1893. Note: I edited this obit.
