Dennis Dean Baumann was born on the family farm on March 29, 1931, to Alfred and Minnie (Peter) Baumann. Dennis was also baptized on the family farm on April 19, 1931. Dennis was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar on May 28, 1944. Dennis served in the U.S. Armed Forces for eight years, beginning Jan. 20, 1953. He was stationed in Fort Carsen, Colo., for training until he was deployed to Germany. On July 26, 1954, he was appointed corporal. Dennis operated a tractor scrapper and helped build the bridge over the Rhine River in Germany. He came home from Germany in December 1954 and went home to the family farm. Dennis was honorably discharged on Jan. 20, 1961. Dennis had a life-time membership at the VFW Post 1644 in Norfolk, where he enjoyed going on Sunday afternoons. Dennis married Anita Reeker on June 28, 1956, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. They had two children, Greg and Kathy. Dennis and Anita lived on the family farm west of Hadar, where Dennis farmed and fed cattle. In later years, he drove truck, transporting supplies across many states. Dennis was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hadar, where he held various offices including chairman and elder. Dennis served on the board of directors for the Battle Creek Farmers' Cooperative for many years. In 1997, Dennis and Anita moved to Hadar when Greg took over the family farm. They lived in Hadar for 18 years when Dennis moved to the Veterans Home on May 14, 2015. Dennis and Anita have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Dennis is survived by his spouse, Anita Baumann of Hadar, a son, Greg Baumann and spouse Sara of Pierce, a daughter, Kathy Warneke and spouse Greg of Pierce, grandchildren Angie Bates and spouse Dan of Norfolk, Blake Baumann and spouse Abbey of Lincoln, Kari Olson and spouse Justin of Pierce, Brook Ahlman and spouse Theron of Davey, Brian Herbolsheimer of Pierce, Laura Benes and spouse Kevin of Pierce, Kayla Bartman and spouse Josh of Hartford, S.D., Megan Herbolsheimer of Pierce, Autumn Baumann of Hartford, S.D.; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Mardell Baumann of Norfolk, and a cousin, Don Peter. Organist will be Karen Pufahl. Casketbearers will be Dan Bates, Blake Baumann, Justin Olson, Theron Ahlman, Brian Herbolsheimer, Kevin Benes, and Josh Bartman.
