Not much is known about his life before he was killed other than he was born and raised in Wenatchee. He has no surviving relatives who ever knew him and the military's only family contact is a younger half-brother, David Galarnau, in Dixon, Mont. He will have no family at his funeral service on April 23. He will be buried with full military honors, including a rifle firing line. What is known about Galarneau has been collected by the American Battle Monuments Commission. The organization provided this information, according to Bob Liedle, memorial affairs coordinator for Joint Base Lewis McCord: Galarneau was serving with the 7th Infantry Division, an Army artillery unit, near the city of Hagaru, North Korea. The unit had been battling against a Chinese army division that was fighting with the North Koreans for four days and three nights and were in the midst of a retreat when he was seriously wounded and taken prisoner on Dec. 6, 1950.
