Description	:	Frank W. "Wally" Cones went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. He was born to Nellie Leonard Cones and Everett Cones on March 20, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of New Palestine, Indiana. Wally was a star basketball player in New Palestine in high school before enlisting in the Army at 18. While in the Army, he played basketball at the University of San Francisco. Read More	Frank W. "Wally" Cones went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. He was born to Nellie Leonard Cones and Everett Cones on March 20, 1924 and was a lifelong resident of New Palestine, Indiana. Wally was a star basketball player in New Palestine in high school before enlisting in the Army at 18. While in the Army, he played basketball at the University of San Francisco. While in the service he served as a medic in Burma, India in WWII. Upon returning from the service, he attended Indiana University where he earned his Masters in Education and played intramural basketball there. He furthered his education at Butler University. He then began his teaching career at Mt. Comfort for one year before teaching and coaching at N.P.H.S., where he led the Dragons to the first Sectional Championship in 1957. After that, he went on to teach in the Perry Township School System, where he was also a much-loved guidance counselor until his retirement in 1989. In 1956 he married Louise Ruschhaupt Cones and became a loving father to her son, Kevin Ruschhaupt and their daughter, Lu Ann. Both Kevin and Lu Ann survive, along with grandsons, Jeremy (Shannon) Ruschhaupt and Dustin Mattingly; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Ruschhaupt. Mr. Cones was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in 2003; his mother, Nellie Cones; brothers, Marshall and Eugene Cones; and sister, Melba Cones Gee. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Hancock Memorial Hospital Critical Care Unit that took such loving care of us and our father. Kevin and Lu Ann would also like to thank all of his friends and acquaintances who brightened his days by stopping by to chat or listen, or take him places. Each and every one of you held a special place in Wally's heart. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 9 at New Palestine United Methodist Church. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hendryx Mortuary, New Palestine Chapel. Burial in New Palestine Cemetery. [The Indianapolis (Marion County, Indiana) Star, November 6, 2009]
