Description	:	This was my dad and he was an absolutely amazing man. He was born in 1923 in Eva, Benton County, Tennessee to Fred and Inez (Goodman) Holland. He joined the Marines in 1943 and fought in the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific, where he was wounded in his leg. After the war, he attended American International University and finally settled in Tucson, AZ where he was a very well-respected elementary principal for many years. He was born in 1923 in Eva, Benton County, Tennessee to Fred and Inez (Goodman) Holland. He joined the Marines in 1943 and fought in the Battle of Tarawa in the Pacific, where he was wounded in his leg. After the war, he attended American International University and finally settled in Tucson, AZ where he was a very well-respected elementary principal for many years. He was also the president of the Tucson Education Association at one point. My dad was kind and loving, very logical and had the ability to calm any situation, no matter how dire. He always thought things through and made everything better. He and my mom were married for nearly 30 years before we lost him and we all miss him every single day. My dad made this world a better place for so many people. He was brave and chivalrous. He always helped those in need and stood up to bullies of all different shapes and sizes. He was one of the smartest men I've ever known. He loved his family and he loved his citrus trees and being able to share the harvest with those he loved. He had a marvelous sense of humor. After he passed, I worked on many of his lines and wish I could have had the opportunity to have told him that through both of his parents, he descends from a long line of many patriots from the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the pre-Revolution Colonial Wars, and the Civil War. I love you, Papa. We are all so very proud to have your blood in our veins and I promise my children will come to know you through all the many wonderful stories I have of you. May you rest well until we meet again. **Because we live in Arizona and his family cemetery is back in Tennessee, my dad had his ashes split between the two locations and is buried in both.
