Roberts passed away at his home, 113 5th West Hutchinson, Kas., at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 1917. He had been in failing health for some time, but only confined to his bed a few days, the cause of death being heart trouble. He was born September 10, 1842, at Gibson, Ind. He was married to Miss Amozette Stephenson, at Lawndale, Ill., February 7, 1867. She passed away July 14, 1890. He was married to Miss Minnie E. Dunlap at Chillicothe, Mo., November 22, 1893, they being married twenty-four years, lacking one day. To the first marriage three children were born, two daughters and one son: Mrs. J.T. Limback of Geneva, Neb., Mrs. L.W. Rummell of Columbia, Mo., and Walter L. Roberts of Larned, Kas. These children and his present wife and James Roberts of Dodge City, Kas., an only brother survive him and were present at his bedside when he passed away. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter and quite a number of nephews and nieces. Mr. Roberts became a member of the Masonic order at wheeling Mo. about thirty years ago and later transferred his membership to Geneva, Neb. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, having served with Company E, one hundred sixth Illinois volunteer Infantry, being a member of Joe Hooker post, Hutchinson, Kas, also a member of the First Methodist church of Hutchinson. A short funeral was held at his late home by the minister of the Methodist church and the G.A.R., after which the funeral party left for his old home at Geneva. The funeral was first announced for Friday afternoon, but train connections could not be made, and the funeral party did not reach Geneva until Friday evening. The funeral was then set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday. It took place from the Methodist Episcopal church, and was conducted by Rev. R.H. Thompson, assisted by Rev. B.A. Warren. The Masonic order was in charge of the arrangements. The G.A.R. and Eastern Star attended in a body. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal. 1917
