Corporal James Larry Sprinkle was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, CPL Sprinkle served our country until August 15th, 1969 in Long An, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was married. CPL Sprinkle is on panel 19W, line 048 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year. I served with Larry: I Think of You Often. I was a casual aquaintance of Larry . I remember him as easy going and approachable with a friendly personality. The day he died, another soldier and I tried to recover Larry in hopes of saving him but we were too late. Larry's death was hard on many of the soldiers that served with him, because he was known to us as a "good guy " who did what was asked of him. I think of, and pray for Larry often - we were about the same age. I hope the life I have made for myself, pleases him. Young Sprinkle is the son of Mr and Mrs John L Sprinkles, of Franklin, NC. He entered service October 14, 1968, and had served in Vietnam 5 months. He married the former Miss Donna Shuler, September 23, 1967. The burial services were held at the Wells Grove Baptist Church with Rev Jud Duvall, Rev Early Dendy, and Rev Fred Sorrells taking part in the service. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery with Military Gravesite Honors. Pallbearers were members of a Military Detachement from Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to his wife, PFC Sprinkles is survived by three brothers; Billy, John and Michel Sprinkles, all of the home; four sisters; Mrs Doris Ann McCoy of Marietta, Georgia, Mrs Hilda Heine, of Cherry Point, Mrs May Sue Gibson of Franklin, and Janet Sprinkle of the home; and his Maternal Grandmother, Mrs Leitha Smith of Candler. Served with the Company D, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, "Old Reliables". He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Silver Star Medal for Gallantry, The Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster for Bravery in Action, The Army Commendation Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
