Roanoke, Ind., June 9. - John Hackett, for more than forty years identified with the business life of Roanoke, died at his home in that town Thursday morning. He was born in Delaware county, Indiana, October 23, 1834, and moved with his parents to Jackson township Huntington county in 1846. In 1857 he moved to Roanoke where he had since resided. He was enlisted as a member of the Forty-seventh regiment, Indiana volunteer infantry in 1862, but became disabled and was discharged from the service on that account. In 1863 he became identified with the drug business in Roanoke in the store of his brother-in-law, R. C. Ebersole. He was married February 8, 1863 to Caroline Ebersole, who survives him. One son, C. L. Hackett, who has for many years been his fathers partner in the drug business, was the only child. Four years ago his health failed and since that time he has not been actively connected with the business. For the past six months he has been bedfast. Mr. Hackett was a member of the G. A. R. and of the Roanoke lodge, No. 195, F. and A. M. He was also a member of the M. E. church. The funeral will be held from the Roanoke M. E. church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment at Glenwood cemetery. Roanoke lodge will have charge. Published in the Fort Wayne Sentinel, June 9, 1916.
