Rausch, was born near Hoven on May 26, 1929. He attended rural grade school and Hoven High School, graduating in 1948. Rausch, 76, Hoven, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at the Royal C. Johnson VA Medical Center, Sioux Falls. LeRoy John Rausch, son of Frances (Duenwald) and John N. Rausch, was born near Hoven on May 26, 1929. He attended rural grade school and Hoven High School, graduating in 1948. He was remembered as a good high school athlete, participating in basketball, football, boxing, and track. Following his schooling, he helped on his parents' farm. He served his country in the U.S. Army, being inducted Oct. 9, 1951. His overseas military duty took him to Germany, and he was honorably discharged on Sept. 19, 1953. He married Patricia "Pat" Garrity at Harrold on March 1, 1954. They lived northeast of Hoven for one and a half years, moved to a farm eight miles west of Hoven until 1961, then purchased a farm four miles east of Hoven. He retired in July 1998 and moved into Hoven. In the summer of 2000, he moved to the Helping Hands Assisted Living Center in Brandon. He spent the last six weeks in the VA Medical Center. LeRoy was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also belonged to the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, where he served as commander in 1963 and 1983. He also served as the District Legion Commander and had been Vice Commander of the State Legion. He had a passion for animals, especially horses, breaking them as a youngster, and belonged to the Blue Valley Saddle Club. LeRoy will be remembered as an accomplished welder and carpenter. He used these talents to create Rausch Waterers and add an addition to the farm house east of Hoven. He was active in the Hoven community, building the arch at the entrance to the city baseball field and helping build the track. LeRoy is survived by Pat Rausch of Hoven; three sons: John (Debra) Rausch of Dell Rapids, Kurt (Donna) Rausch of Tolstoy, and Bill (Kathleen) Rausch of Brandon; two daughters: LeAnn (Jeff) Rens of Springfield, Mo. and Diane (Byron) Dietsch of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; five brothers: Donald (Agnes) Rausch, Richard (Jane) Rausch of Gettysburg, Edward Rausch of Hoven, Lloyd (Betty) Rausch of Windsor, Colo., and George (Shirley) Rausch of Aberdeen; two: sisters-Marcella Lemler of Gettysburg and Beatrice (Hank) Westphal of Bath. He was preceded in death by his father on June 13, 1949, his mother on Feb. 12, 1981, two brothers, Albert and Alfred (in infancy), and three sisters, Laura VanWell, Helen Holzwarth, and Mary (in infancy). His Funeral Mass is 11:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Hoven, with Rev. Lance Oser and Rev. Brian Simon concelebrating. Burial, with military rites, follows at the St. Anthonys Cemetery. Eucharistic Minister will be Kurt Rausch. Offertory gift bearers will be LeRoy's granddaughters, Katie Rausch, Kendra Rens, Amy Ritter, Erica Rens, Karli Siemonsma, and Ali Rausch. Casketbearers will be grandsons Kyle Rausch and Jason Rausch of Dell Rapids, Scott Ritter of Brandon, Trevor Siemonsma of Sioux Falls, and nephews Vic VanWell of Watertown, Gerry VanWell of Henry, and Dave VanWell of Hoven. Wake Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, LeRoy's family requests memorials to the Humane Society, St. Anthony's Catholic Church Restoration Fund, Hoven, S.D., or the John J.
