Read More	The following is transcribed from the news clipping posted by ponder F A G #48265717 on 14 Nov 2015. Myron Harper was born in Meigs County, Ohio, July 13th, 1836. On August 15th, 1859, he married Charlotte Jane Midkiff. To them were born nine children, all of whom preceded him to the spirit land except two: Mrs. S. E. Osborne of Curtis, Oklahoma; and I. M. Harper of Lawrence, Kansas. Mr. Harper enlisted in Company C, 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served for nearly four years in the Civil War. He went through the siege of Vicksburg, and was at the Battle of Lookout Mt. He served under General Sherman and was seriously wounded at the Battle of Atlanta and was unable thereafter to serve in the army. In 1891, evangelistic services were held by Rev. and Mrs. Coe at the Pickett school house southwest of Council Grove. Mr. Harper then united with the M. E. church. With his family, Mr. Harper came to Kansas in 1885. For several years they lived in the vicinity of Council Grove, and for the last nine years he has lived in Alta Vista. Mr. Harper’s health had been failing by reason of his age and army hardships for some years. About six weeks ago he had a slight stroke of paralysis, and nine days later a more severe one. Two weeks ago his son took him to his home in Lawrence so that he might more conveniently care for him. He passed away the 8th of September, 1919. Brief funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning. September 9th, at the son’s residence in Lawrence by Dr. S. S. Klyne, pastor of the First Methodist church of Lawrence. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Davidson sang “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me.” The body was then taken to Council Grove where services were held at the M. E. church. Rev. W. L. Rucker assisted Rev. F. A. Whittlesey, who delivered a sermon from 1 Thess. 5:9, 10—“For God appointed us not unto wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.” “Abide With Me,” “Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me,” and “Asleep in Jesus” were sung. Interment was at the Four Mile cemetery southwest of Council Grove. Mr. Harper had many friends who now extend their sincere sympathy to his loved ones in their bereavement.
