Querl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Querl of Williamsburg, who died June 16 in the Phillippines, where he had been a prisoner of War since May 7, 1942, shortly after the collapse of Corregidor. The message stated a letter with the particulars would follow. William C. Querl son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Querl was born in Williamsburg August 27, 1915 he was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran church. He attended the local schools. On February 3, 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army, sailed for the Phillippines April 26, 1941. In November of 1942 his parents received a message from the War Department informing them that their son was missing in action. In January 1943 through the combined efforts of Rev. Enno Schuelke and Mrs. E.M. McGrew, Home Service chairman of the Williamsburg Red Cross Chapter they received the information through the International Red Cross committee that the Japanese government at Tokyo advised that Cpl. Querl was a Japanese prisoner of war in the Phillippines. Besides his parents Cpl. Querl is survived by two brothers, Leroy of Williamsburg and clifford Querl, S 2 c of the U.S. Navy stationed at Port Towsend, Washington and a sister, Mrs. Claus Grimm of Durant. To the bereaved parents, brothers and sister the home community extend sincerest sympathy.
