Description	:	Mrs. W. E. Slemons of Toledo, Ohio passed away March 4, at the age of 48 years. Funeral services were held in the St. John Lutheran Church of Hatton on Saturday afternoon, March 6, with Rev. Leonard Thompson officiating. Burial was made in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery north of this city. Active pallbearers were Henry Soliah, and Prentice Moen of Mayville, Melvin Pederson, Carsten Brandon, Henning Brandon and Ernest Sander. Melby was born in Washington township, Oct 28, 1905, daughter of the late George Melby and Mrs. Bertha (Hanson) Melby. She finished grade school in Washington township, attended high school in Hatton and graduated from the Mayville High School. She also attended Mayville State Teachers College. She taught school for 4 years in Washington township and also Washington state and Oregon. She also taught for a number of years in Toledo, spending the last 18 months as an instructor of the seventh grade in the Martin School. She was forced to relinquish her teaching duties at Christmas time due to illness. She was Married to Mr. W. E. Slemons of St. Louis, Mo. on May 26, 1936. They lived for a while in St. Louis, then moved to Toledo to make their home. Survivors include her husband and mother, Mrs. George Melby; one brother, Garvin Melby of Hatton; Three nieces, Mrs. Ray Martin of Hunter, Gail and Deon Melby of Hatton and a nephew, George Martin Melby of Hatton.
