Corrine Luella Hornung was born in McIntosh, SD, on September 4, 1930 to Albert F. and Geneva (Wanstedt) Hornung. She attended White Deer School south of Keldron and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1947. Following her graduation, she attended Business College in Mankato, MN. She then returned to Lemmon to work as a receptionist for Dr. F.C. Totten. Corrine was united in marriage to Raymond Maier on December 2, 1951 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Morristown, SD. They lived on the Maier family farm two miles south of Morristown. The couple was blessed with four children, Carolyn, Jim, Dennis, and Nancy. They shared 48 years of marriage before Ray passed away in 2000. Corrine worked alongside Ray, raising their children and helping out on the farm. Meanwhile, she was a secretary for a local telephone company, a baker of wedding and anniversary cakes, a Sunday School teacher, and a 4-H club leader. In 1984, she began working at Wheeler Manufacturing in Lemmon. She retired after 21 years of service. In 1988, Ray and Corrine moved to Morristown and in 2011 Corrine moved to Lemmon. Corrine was a woman with strong faith who enjoyed time with her family. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and a member of Ladies Aid for over 60 years. She was also involved in the South Country Extension Club. In addition, she enjoyed bowling on various leagues, playing cards with friends, and baking. Her grandchildren always found the cookie jar full. Grateful for sharing her life are her four children, Carolyn (Larry) Hendricks, Bison, SD, Jim (Nancy) Maier, Elgin, ND, Dennis (Tina) Maier, Morristown, SD, and Nancy (Bruce) Kappes, Aberdeen, SD; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Butch) Taylor, Sara (Chris) VanWhy, Alan (Megan Spanton) Maier, Austin (Courtney Klever) Maier, Kaci (Blake) Ulrich, Darin Maier, Jordan Maier, Kourtney Peterson, Brandon Peterson, Sterling Kappes and Kaylee (Jesse Babcock) Kappes; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Hornung, Lemmon, SD; and one sister-in-law, June Maier, Morristown, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; brother, Milton Hornung; daughter-in-law, Marie Maier. A memorial will be established in Corrine's honor. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
