Description	:	WALDEN, N.Y. - Cortis ""Coot"" W. Burnett, 88, of Walden, entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. Born in W. Halifax Vt., the son of Archibald and Mary Burnett, he married Elaine Herzig, daughter of Harvey and Mildred Herzig of Griswoldville on July 26, 1947. They lived in Shelburne Falls and had two children: Candis (Candy) and Cortis A. (Corky). He worked at Kendall Mills until 1955, when he moved to New York, and became a claims adjuster for National Grange Mutual Insurance Co. He settled in Walden, and became actively involved in the village. He was a member... Read More	WALDEN, N.Y. - Cortis ""Coot"" W. Burnett, 88, of Walden, entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012. Born in W. Halifax Vt., the son of Archibald and Mary Burnett, he married Elaine Herzig, daughter of Harvey and Mildred Herzig of Griswoldville on July 26, 1947. They lived in Shelburne Falls and had two children: Candis (Candy) and Cortis A. (Corky). He worked at Kendall Mills until 1955, when he moved to New York, and became a claims adjuster for National Grange Mutual Insurance Co. He settled in Walden, and became actively involved in the village. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for over 52 years and a manager and past president of the Walden Little League. He loved traveling and camping with his family, visiting the relatives in Massachusetts and Vermont, hunting, baseball and, later in life, golfing and coffee with his friends. He was, first of all, a loving husband, father and No. 1 Poppie. He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Elaine Burnett of Walden; his daughter, Candis Stickle and husband Robert of Poughkeepsie, NY; his son, Cortis A. Burnett and wife Debbie of Newburgh NY; his granddaughter: Heather Stickle of Poughkeepsie, and his grandson, David Stickle of Smyrna, GA. Other survivors include two sisters: Bertel Woods of Brattleboro, VT, and Bernice Barnett and husband Carlton of West Halifax, VT; brother, Clayton Burnett and wife Madeline of Keene, NH; sister-in-law, Kay Burnett of Knox, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents and two brothers: Malcolm Burnett of W. Halifax, and Nelson Burnett of Jacksonville, VT. Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at West Branch Cemetery in Colrain, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. – The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
