The news of his death came as a shock to his numerous friends in Ottumwa,Iowa Mr. Canfield has been in ill health for some time and had just recently left a hospital after recovering from a fractured rib sustained in an accident. He arose Tuesday morning shortley before 5o'clock and went to the bathroom. A few minutes later Mrs. Canfield was startled by a shot and entering the room found her husband lying on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital where he died two hours later. The bullet entered his brain through the left temple. Mrs. S.E. Adler, 312 East Fourth Street, mother of Mrs. Canfield, left Tuesday for Des Moines,Iowa and Calvin Canfield, father of the deceased who had been visiting at Smith Center, Kan, was communicated with and will arrive in Ottumwa,Iowa Thursday. Numerous relatives of the decedent reside here. The remains will arrive in Ottumwa,Iowa Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and will be taken direct to the Ottumwa Cemetery. Services at the grave will be in charge of the B.P.O.E. No 347. The pallbearers will be selected from the officers of the local lodge.
