"Born June 10, 1013 at Sparkman, she was a daughter of the late Parham Jackson and Annie Mann Fite. "She was a member of the world famous and storied Sparkman Sparklers women's basketball team from 1926-1930. During this time, the Sparklers were perhaps the most recognized women's basketball team in the country, and played and competed successfully againtst women's teams not only in Arkansas but also against those from large cities, such as Dallas and St. Louis. "Following her careet with the Sparklers, Cozie attended Crescent College in Eureka Springs, where she again excelled in basketball for the Crescent Comets and helped lead her team to another appearance in the National Women's Basketball Tournament. "In 1980, she received a Certificate of Merit from then Governor Bill Clinton for her athletic accomplishments and service to Arkansas. "Cozie married in 1942 to G. Kenneth Thomas of Fordyce. Following his death in 1968, she married Rev. Rufus F. Sorrells in 1973. The couple resided in Fordyce until his death in 1993. Cozie was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lucille Gilliam, and two brothers, Junius Fite and Harry Fite, Sr. "Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. K. Jackson Thomas of Charleston, SC and two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas and Jennifer Thomas, also of Charleston, SC; and a step-daughter, Marion Robertson of Russellville. "A service and celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, at the First United Methodist Church at Fordyce with Dusty Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemtery at Fordyce. "Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Fordyce, the Dallas County Museum or the American Heart Association.
