Visitation will begin 9:00 AM Sunday, February 29, 2004 with family present to greet friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in our chapel. Elmer Anton Jensen, son of Christ and Mary (Henriksen) Jensen was born February 7, 1920 in Burbank, SD. He grew up in Burbank and received his education at Rockfield Country School. He farmed for a few years before entering the U.S. Army on May 7, 1942. Elmer served during WWII as a T5 Radio High Tech Operator in the 2nd Battalion 376th Infantry. He fought in Rhineland Central Europe and the "Battle of the Bulge". His decorations and citations include, American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars. Elmer was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946. Elmer was united in marriage with Pauline Schleich on August 25, 1947 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple owned and operated Deer Lake Resort near Bemidji, MN, before moving to Portland, OR. In 1952 they moved back to Sioux Falls, where Elmer worked as a foreman for Lakeside Dairy. Elmer and Pauline were charter members at St. Lambert Catholic Church. He was a life member of the VFW Post #628. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and mechanical work. Grateful for having shared his life are his seven daughters, Mary Dunn and her husband, Mike, Eden, SD, Donna Neville and her husband, Tom, Madison, SD, Joan Schultz and her husband, Steve, Grand Forks, ND, Jean Schoenfelder and her husband, Bill, Olathe, KS, Barb Kokenge and her husband, Ron, Sioux Falls, SD, Dianne Forseth and her husband, Mike, Sioux Falls,SD, Cheryl Meinders and her husband, Mike, Tea, SD; sister, Maggie Hansen, St. Helens, OR; brother, Maynard Jensen, Portland, OR; seventeen grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; parents; brother, Earl; and sister, Laura Paulsen. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.
