Nursing Home in Canton where he was recovering from a fall. Fred was born February 12, 1919 at Keokuk, Iowa, a son of Frederick B. and Willamena Immegart Schlotter. He married Jessie H. Winters on May 31, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death on Mar. 30, 2011. Fred was a World War II Army Veteran. Fred was born February 12, 1919 at Keokuk, Iowa, a son of Frederick B. and Willamena Immegart Schlotter. He married Jessie H. Winters on May 31, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She preceded him in death on Mar. 30, 2011. Fred was a World War II Army Veteran. He was awarded 4 bronze stars for Algerian, Tunisian, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arnold Campaigns and received six overseas bars. He served with the 168th Infantry Regiment, Co H, APO 34. He was Awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service during action July 3, 1944 in the vicinity of Castellina, Italy. He liked to share funny stories about things that happened during the was. He was a member of Otto Bruner Post 170 of the American Legion at Canton for over 55 years. He was a farmer and enjoyed growing crops and raising cattle. He also liked horses. Fred and Jessie were long-time members of the Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. The both loved being with their children, grandchildren and extended family. Survivors include two sons, Frederick M. "Mark" Schlotter and his wife Barbara, of Canton, Mo., and David W. Schlotter of Keokuk, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Matthew C. Schlotter of Canton, Mo., Rocky F. (Teresa) Ketcham of Riverview, Fla., Tim (Cathy) Wright of Russell, Iowa, Lisa Anderson and James Wolfe of Grain Valley, Mo., Lori Anderson (Mrs. Charles) Lawrence of Holts Summit, Mo., Lyndsay Schlotter (Mrs. Scott) Boltinghouse of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Peter Schlotter of Peoria, Ill., Liza Schlotter (Mrs. Seth) Louton of Shanghai, China; eight great-grandchildren: lacey and Garrett Ketcham, Christopher and Jared Wright, Leighton and Ashlyn Green, Aidan Lawrence and Alexys Boltinghouse; one brother, Harold "Jake" (Betty) Schlotter of Springfield, Mo., a World War II Marine who served on the USS Mississippi; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Franklin "Bud" (Nina) Winters of Wayland, Mo., Virginia DelGuzzi of Port Angeles, Wash., and Dave Davidson of Seattle, Wash.; Schlotter nieces and nephews: Julie Schlotter Fanny of Flaming Island, Fla., Peggy Ann Stutenberg of Keokuk, Iowa, Doug (Lind) Foulkes of Fairborn, Ohio, Fred (Betty) Foulkes of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Nick Schlotter of St. Paul, Minn.; two cousins, Janet (Mrs. Ernie) Hausch of Montrose, Iowa and Marcella (Mrs. Robert) Skinner of Keokuk, Iowa; as well as other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jessie; daughter Judy Waite; two sisters, Sara Foulkes and Louise Stutenburg; and a cousin, Jim Schlooter, who died on the USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed by Japan following its delivery of critical parts of the first atom bomb to be used in U. S. Combat. Joint graveside memorial services for Frederick and Jessie Schlotter, will be held Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa, with military honors by Otto Bruner Post 170 of the American Legion, Canton, Mo., and members of the Missouri Military Honors Program. Playing taps will be grandson-in-law, Scott Boltinghouse, serving in the U.S. Army in Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Officiating will be Pastor Barb Hagerla. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Bluff Springs United Methodist Church or Otto Bruner Post 170, American Legion, Canton, Mo. The family is being served by Wilson Funeral Home, Kahoka, Mo.
