Description	:	Harry Marshall Cook was born on August 10, 1897, in Butler County, Ohio, to John Jacob Cook (1865-1910) and Nellie (Marshall) Cook (1875-1899). Of their two children, Harry was the firstborn. His brother, Clarence Edward Cook (1899–1942), is interred on the Cook family plot along with Harry and their parents at Collinsville Cemetery at Collinsville in Milford Township of Butler County, Ohio. During World War I, Corporal Harry Marshall Cook served in the U. S. Army's American Expeditionary Force (A. E. F.) with Company "H" of the 147th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Division of the U. S. Army. (The 147th infantry Regiment included the 1st Infantry of the Ohio National Guard in which Harry Marshall Cook had enlisted at Cincinnati.) Corporal Harry Marshall Cook was killed in action against the retreating German Army in northeastern France as the A. E. F. and French troops advanced toward Mézières and Sedan two weeks after the A.E.F's successful offensive that forced the German Army to retreat from the Saint Mihiel Salient, thereby facilitating the launching of the combined Meuse-Argonne Offensive by the A.E. F. and the French Army from September 26 to November 11, 1918. Corporal Harry Marshall Cook died in action near Montfaucon-d'Argonne, Département de la Meuse, Lorraine, France, on the third day of this offensive that steadily drove the German Army to retreat and persuaded its High Command to request the German Government to seek an Armistice -- one granted on Allied terms that obliged the Germans to surrender their entire Navy and all military aircraft and to withdraw their Army from Belgium and northeastern France and all of Germany west of the Rhine River.
