Centerville Daily Iowegian and Citizen, Centerville, Iowa, Wednesday, March 31, 1943, page 5 JOHN ROSS OF CINCINNATI IS WAR VICTIM Soldier Reported to have Died of Pneumonia Contracted at Guadalcanal Sad news was received in Cincinnati yesterday by the parents of Corporal John Wynn Ross according to report received at the Iowegian today. It is said that John was a victim of pneumonia ** *** ** contracted at Guadalcanal. Some time ago the parents received a telegram saying that John was seriously ill with pneumonia. Then came the present message saying that his death had occurred two weeks prior to the time that the message had been received saying that he was seriously ill. John was 24 years of age, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ross, of Cincinnati and born and raised in Cincinnati. Report of his death brings deep sorrow to a wide circle of friends and relatives. He had been in Chicago for a time before his induction into the armed services. He was in the army anti tank forces and had trained at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. One of his more recent addresses had been given as A. T. Co., 132 Div. Force 6814 B. APO 502 U. S. Army, % Postmaster, San Francisco. John entered service May 6, 1941.
