GEORGE McCAULEY This community was deeply and sadly shocked to hear of the sudden passing on Friday evening, October 8th, of Michael George McCauley, due to a heart attack in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. He had spent five weeks in the hospital early in the summer and returned again only one week before his demise. George, as he was known to all, was born in Melancthon Township, December 3rd, 1883. He was to son of Mr. and Mrs, James McCauley. With the exception of four years spent in the west, he spent the early part of his life in Melancthon until 1914, when he enlisted in the Army. He spent four years and eight months overseas with the 4th Battalion Machine Gun Unit. He was awarded the D.C.M. at the Battle of Ypres. 1915, also the Mons Star, Full-time Service Medel and Victory Medal. In April, 1919, he was honorably discharged. On March 22nd, 1921, he married Dolly French. They have farmed in Melancthon their entire married life. To them was born one daughter, Sadie, who predeceased him in the year 1930 at the age of seven, also one son, Jack, at home. George was a member of the Latter Day Saint's Church, Redickville, and was a former president of the Dundalk Branch of the Canadian Legion. A large circle of friends will miss his cheery presence. He is survived by his wife and son; also one brother, Robert, Melancthon, and three sisters, Mrs. H. C. Hamilton (Sadie), Melancthon, Mrs. Wm. Young (Ethel), Toronto, Mrs. Frank Ridley (Margaret), Toronto. Two sisters and four brothers predeceased him. The funeral was held from the McMillan Funeral Home, Dundalk, on October 11th to Dundalk Cemetery. Members of Dundalk Branch Canadian Legion attended in a body. The service was conducted by Elder W. A. Dayton of the Latter Day Saints Church, Ridgeway, formerly of Redickville district. The pall-bearers were Legion members, namely: Joe Stafford, Joe Little, Jack Cowan, Harvey Marshall, Jack Galbraith (Shelburne) and Bob Hamilton. The flower-bearers were also Legion members. Those attending from a distance came from Toronto, Brampton, Orangeville, Alton, Grand Valley, Meaford and Ridgeway. -Dundalk Herald. *Would like to transfer this memorial to a family member
