Description	:	Grinnell Herald-Register September 3, 1973 Gerald Tilman Strand, 62, of El Cajon, California, died suddenly on September 3, of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Strand had just arrived from California a few hours earlier and was at the home of his brother, Virgil Strand of Newburg when he was stricken. Read More	Grinnell Herald-Register September 3, 1973 Gerald Tilman Strand, 62, of El Cajon, California, died suddenly on September 3, of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Strand had just arrived from California a few hours earlier and was at the home of his brother, Virgil Strand of Newburg when he was stricken. The son of Emil and Minnie Roseland Strand, he was born near Newburg on May 15, 1911. He attended rural schools near the family home and later graduated from Newburg High School. Following his graduation, he farmed in the Newburg area for a few years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. In 1956 he retired from the Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Mr. Strand was a charter member of the Sons of Norway, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1812, and Fleet Reserve Association No. 47, all of El Cajon. He married Georgia Ford, on June 9, 1956, at Castro Valley, California. Survivors include his wife; stepdaughter Mrs. George (Shirley) Holbery, of Castro Valley; three grandsons; brother Virgil; and half-sisters, Frances and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Christine. Burial in the Stavanger Friends Cemetery near Le Grand.
