Description	:	Capt. John Calley, Esq., second known son of Thomas Calley (q.v. Caly, Cauley, Cawley) and Mary Parmiter, b. perhaps circa 1665 in Marblehead, Mass. where he died testate and buried March 1, 1727/8 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church cemetery. On June 29, 1685 of record at Marblehead, John m. Susanna Stacy, who d. at Marblehead and was buried there in St. Michael's cemetery on April 15, 1745. On June 29, 1685 of record at Marblehead, John m. Susanna Stacy, who d. at Marblehead and was buried there in St. Michael's cemetery on April 15, 1745. They had at least eight children whose birth order is not confirmed. The middle six children were group baptized of record on April 27, 1707 at the First Congregational Church of Marblehead: John, Francis, Jane, Mary, Moses, Samuel, Susannah and Benjamin. Following the founding of St. Michael's Episcopal John and Susanna's family, along with the family of John's younger brother, Capt. James Calley, joined St. Michael's Church. Capt. John Calley was extensively involved in maritime activities with his brother James, and James' son-in-law Edward How in cod fishing based at Canso on the northeast tip of Nova Scotia. John's Will was written on February 21, 1727/8 and proved March 7, 1727/8 leaving an estate inventoried in April 1728 totaling in excess of £6,000. His will in modern English, punctuation and paragraphing follows: • In the Name of God Amen. I John Calley of Marblehead in the County of Essex in his Majesties Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England, Esquire, being of Sound Mind, Memory and understanding do make this my Last Will & Testament in Manner following, Viz: My Soul I recommend into the hands of almighty God [and] My body to the Earth to be Decently buried at the Discretion of My Executors hereinafter Named. • And as to My Personal and Real Estate I Dispose and Bequeath unto My Son Benjamin Calley, and his Heirs forever all that the House wherein he now Dwells together with the lot and parcel of Land thereunto adjoining Containing by Estimation Eight Acres (be the Same more or less) Commonly Called or known by the Name of Carwithey's Lot; • And for the Rest Residue & Remainder of my Personal and Real Estate, I Devise bequeath and will that the Same be Equally Divided, amongst My Children and their Representatives, Equally Share and Share alike, and that My Grandson, Thomas Calley, or the Representatives of My Son John Calley Deceased receive and be paid his or their Single Share, or proportion & no More; • And I further Will that all My Estate not herein before bequeathed be Equally Divided, Amongst all and Every of my Children, And their Representatives Share and Share alike, After My Wife Susannah Calley or her Assigns have been fully Satisfied, Allowed and paid for her third of Dower in My Said Real & Personal Estate. And Lastly I Do hereby ordain Nominate & appoint my good friend John Olton Esqr. & the Rev. Mr. George Pigot co-executors of this My Last Will & Testament. • In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set My hand and Seal the Twenty first Day of February in the Second year of the Reign of our Lord King George the Second Annog Dom 1727/8.
