Description	:	Captain John Evans held commissions from His Majesty King George III in the 35th and 81st Regiments, in the Royal Liverpool Volunteers and the Royal Newfoundland Fencibles. He took his discharge from the last mentioned regiment when it was disbanded in Halifax in June 1816, after seeing service in the Canadas during the War of 1812. He received one of the first land grants in Sherwood where he built and lived in a residence until moving to Chester.
