Text "For here we have no Continueing City &c" Elder Padman Exhorted and prayed after Sermon with much feeling, as he had often viseted the deceased while Sick, Jonathan Freeman Young, professed to be Converted at the Second Advent meeting holden at the Methodist M. house Some over one year Since, in about three months he backslid but dureing his long and Severe Sickness he found God's Salvation restored him and died happy He was an industrious & usefull lad, and both the family and the publick have Sustained a Severe loss. Dea. Jonathan Young 90y 1 mo 22d Journals of Enoch Place, FR, p.1020,1021 Sun. Aug. 10. {1851} - Went with my wife to Crown point. Prayed at the house of mourning before forming the procession Thence in procession of Carriages which reached a long distance. The Congregation at our M. house at C. Point was unusual learge not less than 400 perhaps more. I preached from Psalm 37:37. "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright, fot the end of that man is peace." After the Sermon Elder Winkley, and Mrs Place, gave appropriate exhortations. Much of the divine influence was felt at that time. Capt. Jonathan Young, was born in Barrington, June 16th 1761, His father,s name was Benjamin, and formerly lived a few rods from the present site of our M. house at C. Point. His house was one of the very first if not the first that was ever opened for Freewill Baptist preaching in that place. His son Jonathan Sld that farm and purchased one much more valuable where he resided 3/4 of a mile from Said M. house many years. In 1810 he was promoted to the command of a Company of Melitia. He soon after gave his heart to God, resigned his Commission, and with his wife were Baptized by Elder Otis, and united with the Second F.W.B. Church in Barrington (now Strafford) His Spacious house became a place of resort for Christians where frequent meetings were held. In the Spring of 1815, He was appointed to fill the office of Deacon, whis was vacated by the removal of Dea Joseph Cate, to the town of Alton. Also Clerk of the Church at the same time. On the 13 of April 1815, He was ordained to that office which he held to the day of his death. His last ilnes of 19 days was Typhoid fever. He has his reason, and wasalm, and at times verry happy, until he gave up his Spirit being an old man & full of days. Aged 90 yrs 1 mo 22 days. NH, Strafford, History of, 1995, The Pioneers, p.29 PAUL HAYES, Jr. Paul HAYES Jr. received from his father, Paul HAYES Sr. of Barrington, on Sept 16, 1765, 100 acres in lot 24 in the 1st Range. He was born about 1744, probably died in 1821, as his will was probated Oct. 21, 1821. He married before 1768, Abigail, daughter of Joseph and Tamson (Drew) Drew. She died before 1817. He married second, Aug. 19, 1818. Patience Dame, widow of Ephraim Chamberlain. ... Paul HAYES Jr. sold his homestead in 1796 to Jonathan Young of Strafford and moved to Alton. *** JONATHAN YOUNG Jonathan Young, who had lived on Lot 21, moved to the HAYES farm. He was born June 16, 1760 (Eld. Enoch Place's Rec.) he died Aug. 8, 1851, He was a captain in the militia, was a deacon in the Free Will Baptist Church at Crown Point, and was active in town affairs. He married Mary Hill, born about 1768, died Oct. 30, 1852 (Place's Rec.). Children named in his will BENJAMIN, late of Farmington JONATHAN, Jr., of Barrington STEPHEN, b. abt 1802. JOHN F. ANNA {Young} HILL. SALLY {Young} DROWN POLLY {Young} Berry . STEPHEN had the home farm. He was born about 1802, died Dec. 4, 1893, married Lydia Main of Rochester. She was born about 1803 and died Nov. 24. 1880 (Town Records). Children: Mary Ann. George Stephen L. Charles W. Freeman. No one has lived on the HAYES-Young farm since the home of Stephen Young was destroyed by an explosion caused by dynamite in the cellar near what is now called Dynamite Corner. The land above the crossroad had several owners before it was purchased by Harley Winkley. The part of the farm below the crossroad was purchased by Ellsworth Berry and is now owned by Ora (Stanton) Berry, a great granddaughter of Stephen Young.
