(Ibid. 13 : 584, 585.) In all of these petitions there appear the names of Jonathan Glidden and Jonathan Glidden Jun'r . The significance of the word “Junior” is simply younger of two of the same name. In a petition of the inhabitants of Unity against being annexed to Charlestown, 23 May 1794 there appears the names of Jonathan Glidden and Jonathan Glidden, 3d. (Ibid. 13 :586.) This indicates that at that time there were three persons of the name Jonathan Glidden residing in Unity. Capt. Jonathan Glidden was a representative from Unity in 1801. (The New Hampshire Sun, 1801.) The Ladd Genealogy, p. 30, incorrectly states that Elizabeth Ladd married Capt. John Glidden. In 1790 the Census enumerator of Unity found two heads of families living there which he designated as Jonathan Glidden and Jonathan Glidden Jr. The family of Jonathan Glidden Jr. consisted of two males over 16 years of age, three males under 16 and one female. (N. H. Census, 1790, p. 25.) Jonathan Glidden Jr. of Unity made his will, 22 Nov. 1812, and it was proved, 20 Jan. 1813. To his wife Elizabeth Glidden he gave many household articles. To his son John $75. To his son Elisha $300. To his daughter Clarissa $200 at the age of 18 years. To his son Erastus $300. To his sons Samuel and Erastus he gave “the farm on which I now live with the buildings ,, and stock. Son Samuel to be executor. (Cheshire Co. Probate, G. 98.)
