Description	:	Capt. Richard Jones VI [3524.9.3.1.3.8.8] married Elizabet h Campbell Epes on 17 November 1818. She was the daughter o f Maj. John Epes. Capt. Jones was a lawyer and outstanding orator. He served as Commonwealth’s Attorney of Nottoway and represented the county in the House of Delegates(1816-19). He lived first at “Vermont” on Stingy Lane Road in Nottoway County. Capt. Richard Jones owned the race track, Bellefont, a few miles east of Blackstone. Local church leaders, opposed to gambling, held a revival protesting the track. Jones joined the church, closed the tack, and turned the tavern into a school for young women. In 1839 Jones moved his home, also known as “Bellefont,” there (Windrow ?). He died before the Civil War and was interred at “Windrow.” They named “Windrow” for a violent storm that tore a narrow path through Nottoway County and viciously blew a small child several miles. Isaac Holmes, first Nottoway County clerk, owned “Windrow” and Jones owned it before selling it to Theodorick Pryor, who sold it to his brother-in-law Thomas Freeman Epes about 1839.
