SHAMBARGER, age 38, who resided at 12629 Apsley Lane, Carmel, formerly of Rochester, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin. He was born on July 14, 1967, in Rochester, as the son of Mark G. and Darlene Bunnell Shambarger. He had lived most of his life in Rochester with the exception of the past 10 years when he resided in Carmel. He was married on August 14, 1983, in Rochester, to Karrie L. Moore, who survives him. He was a graduate of Rochester High School in the class of 1985. He had attended Vincennes University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He later attended Indiana University, South Bend Campus, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Germany. After leaving the Army, he joined the Indiana National Guard where he had earned the rank of captain. He was a career man in the military for the past 20 years. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 152nd Infantry Division of the Indiana National Guard. During his tenure with the Guard, he had served in Bosnia in 2002 and for a year in Iraq in 2003. In Iraq, he earned a coveted Bronze Star for heroic or meritorious achievement and a combat badge, while being assigned as the Delta Company Commander. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife, Karrie Shambarger, at home; mother and stepfather, Darlene Denton and husband Tim, of Rochester; a sister, Kendra Chudzynski and husband Dan, of Rochester; a brother, Mark E. Shambarger, of Indianapolis; a half brother, Shawn Shambarger, of Rochester; and a half sister, Nichole Weitzel, of Rochester; a stepsister, Jeni Moore and husband Brody, of Rochester; and a stepbrother, Jason Denton and wife Kristi, of Fulton; two nieces, Jaycee Denton, Fulton, and Kiley Dague, Rochester; and four nephews, John Denton, Fulton, Chandler Shambarger, Ryan Chudzynski and Bryce Weitzel, all of Rochester. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive along with many special friends. His father, Mark G. Shambarger, preceded him in death in 1983. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th Street, Rochester, with Rev. Jimmy Calhoun officiating. Interment with full military honors will be conducted at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery following his service. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday or one hour prior to his services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to a Veterans Association charity in his memory.
