They were the parents of six children: 1. Mary Ellen, wife of W. J. Zenor, of Ames; 2. Samuel Webster, of Jefferson, Iowa ; 3. Mrs. Naomi Ann Phillips, who is living in Lewiston, Montana; 4. Nancy Alice, wife of J. P. Jackson, of Sullivan county, Indiana; 5. George W., of Ames; 6. Viola L.. who wed Charles H. Gidden and after his death wed Fred Thomas, of Des Moines. Twenty years after the death of his first wife, Mr. O'Brien was married on Dec. 24, 1884, to Mrs. Sarah R. Hiestand, the widow of H. J. Hiestand. Mr. Hiestand was a brother of Mr. O'Brien's first wife and was one of the recruits that served under Mr. O'Brien in Co. A, 23rd Iowa Infantry, during the Civil war.
