Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson with Father Frank Machovec officiating. A rosary will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, the 27th, in Nelson's Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Follmer, 33, of Nelson died Thursday, October 20, 1988, in Athens, Greece. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, October 27, 1988 Craig Lee Follmer, the fifth of nine children, was born to Don and Muriel (Troudt) Follmer in Nelson, Nebraska, on October 9, 1955. He passed away in Athens, Greece, October 21, 1988, at the age of 33 years and 12 days. Craig grew up on the family farm west of Nelson. He attended Highland Rural School and Nelson High School. He attended Hastings Community College, majoring in mechanics and welding. In grade school, Craig enjoyed performing in the annual Christmas programs for friends and relatives and neighbors. In high school, Craig enjoyed playing football and was known to some as Nelson's secret weapon. He also participated in F.F.A. and 4-H in his youth. Craig worked with his brother, Dennis, at Davenport Diesel and Great Plains Chrysler-Plymouth as a mechanic. He worked two years for an area farmer. The summer of 1987, he worked for his brother, Gary, with Follmer Construction. In 1988, he was employed by Skip Fullerton at Skip's Truck and Auto Repair in Superior, Nebraska. Craig met his illness with much courage and the conviction that he would be strong and healthy again. He had a wonderful group of friends and relatives that supported him with visits, calls, and prayers. One thing Craig was sure of was the love of all his family. They were united several times to care for, love and carry him through any problems. One of the highlights of his final days was the family picnic Craig and Grandma Troudt planned in Nelson. His family helped him fulfill his last wishes. Craig leaves to mourn his passing: Don and Muriel Follmer of Nelson, Gary and Shirley Follmer of Superior, Dennis and Kathy Follmer of Davenport, Clark and Diane (Follmer) Krieser of Seward, Mike and Linda Follmer of Hastings, Brenda and Gayle Follmer of Lincoln, Mark and Lyn Follmer of Lincoln, Shelley Follmer of Omaha, his grandmother Marie Troudt of Nelson, five nephews and six nieces. Ruth Ann Barton Funeral services were held Friday, October 28, 1988, at 10:00 a.m. from the Sacred Heart atholic Church in Nelson, Nebraska, with Father Frank Machovec and Father Jerry Connealy officiating. Lector was Jerome Mazour and Altar Boys were Chad Ostdiek and Aaron Uhrmacher. Music was provided by the Church Choir singing "One Day At A Time," "How Great Thou Art," "Here I Am Lord" and "Prayer of St. Francis" with Jim Spirk as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Rodney Follmer, Jason Follmer, Scott Sweenie, James Horst, Kurt Eickmann and John Troia. Honorary pallbearers were Skip Fullerton, Gary Culbertson, Bob Griffith, John Corman, Lynn Nielsen, Howard Nielsen, John McLaughlin, Scott Corman, Brent Jensen and John Littrell. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, near Nelson, Nebraska. A rosary service was held Thursday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Church.
