He grew up in Montour and graduated from high school. Curt married, divorced, and later married Donna Eastman. The couple lived in Marshalltown. He was a past member of the United Auto Workers Union and attended the Faith Assembly of God Church. Curt enjoyed leather working, painting, watching the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs baseball teams, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Survivors include his children, Curt, Derek, Chris and Richie (Amy) Smith, and Brent (Daleen) Michel and Dawn Michel; grandchildren, Cody (Tara), Tasia (Wheeler), and Lizzy; great grandchildren, Whylee, Triscety, and Carolina; and siblings Illeana Manship, Nettie Dibben and Leroy Smith.
