Knutson, 87, of Forest City, died Thursday (April 3, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with the Rev. Gary Marzolf, officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City. Curtis E. Knutson was born on Feb. 8, 1916, near Fergus Falls, Minn., the son of Carl and Julia (Olson) Knudson. He lived several years in Emmetsburg. On Sept. 3, 1939, he was married to Mary Helen Campbell in Emmetsburg. The couple had enjoyed 63 years of married life together. Curtis served in the United States Army during World War II. The couple made their home in Wells, Minn., for 18 years where Curtis worked with John Deere machinery. Curtis later came to Forest City and began working for Winnebago Industries. At the time of his retirement he began to put thousands of miles on his little Winnebago Motor Home. He enjoyed the fellowship in the campgrounds and seeing much of the U.S. and Canada. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion and was a lifetime member in the Disabled American Veterans. Although he enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles and fishing, Curtis was a farmer at heart. He loved repairing and working on farm machinery, liked watching the crops grow and treasured his time working with Rolfe Holtan. Curtis is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Knutson, of Forest City; a daughter, Kathleen Mangum, of Bird Island, Minn.; a son, Ernest and wife, Vange, of Lindstrom, Minn.; a son, Dan and wife, Jerri, of White Bluff, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Dawn Allerson, Diana Novotny and husband, John, William Mangum and wife, Yvonne, and Erik Knutson; four great-grandchildren, Johnny and Chelsea Novotny, Nathanial Goestch and Benjamin Mangum. Also surviving are sisters, Emma Moen, Florence Green, Mildred Stras, Helen Christenson and husband, Alton, and Anna Straub and her husband, Gerry. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Corrine Floen; and brothers, Harlan, Ernest, Elmer and Lloyd. Petersen Lund Funeral Home, (641) 585-2685.
