Description	:	Curtiss Wilburn "Wilbur" Hodge Sr., 82, widower of Mary Trantham Hodge, formerly of Catawba St., Union, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Center. Mr. Hodge was born in Pacolet, April 24, 1924 a son of the late Clarence and Sarah Lawson Hodge. He was retired from Kohler Co. in Spartanburg where he remained a member of the Quarter Century Club. Read More	Curtiss Wilburn "Wilbur" Hodge Sr., 82, widower of Mary Trantham Hodge, formerly of Catawba St., Union, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Oakmont Nursing Center. Mr. Hodge was born in Pacolet, April 24, 1924 a son of the late Clarence and Sarah Lawson Hodge. He was retired from Kohler Co. in Spartanburg where he remained a member of the Quarter Century Club. Mr. Hodge was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the European Thearter during World War II. He was also retired from the S.C. National Guard, Union Unit as a Sgt. Major. A member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church, Mr. Hodge was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and was a Mason. He had previously served on the Union County Fair Board and the Union County Election Commission. Mr. Hodge was an avid baseball player prior to and during his military service and afterwards with semi-professional local and regional textile leagues. Early in his baseball days he was given the opportunity to sign with the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Hodge was a caring and loving husband having devoted the past 20 years to the care of his wife. He was also a devoted father and grandfather. Surviving are two sons, C. Wilburn Hodge Jr. and wife Carolyn "Pitsy" of Simpsonville, and Lynn W. Hodge of Greer; a brother: Charles G. Hodge and wife Doris of Union; a son-in-law: John Nichols of Simpsonville; seven grandchildren, Susan Burnette of Fountain Inn, Eleanor Rogers of Simpsonville, David Hodge of Greenville, Lynn Hodge Jr. of Columbia, Taylor Riley of Orangeburg, Lauren Farmer of Simpsonville, Brett Nichols of Simpsonville; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Hodge was predeceased by a daughter, Emma Hodge Nichols. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Duncan Acres United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Tommy Bailey and the Rev. Robert Emory. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Hodge, Lynn Hodge Jr., Brett Nichols, Darrell Burnette, Dixon Rogers, Kevin Farmer and Fred Riley. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Duncan Acres United Methodist Church, 417 Rice Ave., Union, S.C., 29379.
