Description	:	Cynthia Ann McKinsey was born on 20 May 1825 in Warren County, Ohio to Samuel and Rebecca Spray McKinsey. Her paternal grandparents were George and Sarah Thomas McKinsey and her maternal grandparents were James and Naomi Hollingsworth Spray. She descended from the noted Quaker, Valentine Hollingsworth who came to the colonies with Willian Penn. Cynthia Ann McKinsey married Joseph Franklin Hatt on 30 November 1845 in Montgomery County, Indiana. There were five known children born of their union. Sarah E., William Albert (my great-great-grandfather), Maria (Hunt), Naomi Ann, and Charles Reuben. William was the only surviving child of this family at the time of his mother's death on 28 August 1898. Cynthia Ann McKinsey Hatt must have been a strong willed lady as indicated by a deed where land was purchased by her. I think she purchased the land with her inheritance from her father Samuel McKinsey. The deed stipulated that Joseph Franklin Hatt could live or use the land, but it was to go to "heirs of her body." He could not sell the land. Deed records indicate that he signed the land over to William Albert Hatt as the only living child of Cynthia Ann Hatt. There is no known death record for Cynthia Ann, however, there is an obituary in the Parke County Journal, page 1, Thursday, September 1, 1898 which stated that she died on Sunday afternoon (28 August 1898) and was buried on 29 August 1898, a Monday. She suffered from nervous trouble. Joseph Franklin Hatt, her husband was living with his granddaughter, Ida Jane Hatt Stevens on the 1900 Indiana Census and he remarried on 8 October 1900, to Melvina Lueina Foustina Richards who was previously married to a man by the name of White. Cynthia Ann McKinsey Hatt's grave is not marked, but cemetery records list her as being buried in the Sixteen Graveyard at Tangier, Parke County, Indiana. Her tombstone could have sunk below the soil in the Hatt plot.
