Caution: the marriage record information provided below in a message appears to show the birth location as "Des Moines, Iowa", but to this contributor that does NOT mean that she was born in Des Moines, Polk county, Iowa. Rather, it is a transcription record that actually refers to her birth location in what would be Des Moines township of Jefferson county, Iowa. The family lived in and around Libertyville in Jefferson county, so that would be in keeping with that location area. MARIES ILL 4 YEARS; DEAD Funeral Services Tomorrow Afternoon at 2 from Hoskins Funeral Home Mrs. D. E. Maries (sic),who has been ill for the past four years, most of which time she has been bedfast, passed away this morning at 8 oclock at her home in Beckwith. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 oclock from the Hoskins funeral home. Burial will be made in the Brethren cemetery west of Libertyville. Mrs. Maries is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. E. B. Fresh and Mrs. L. V. Stufflebeam of Bloomfield and Leo, Iris and Donna at home. She also leaves the following sisters: Mrs. Oscar F. Lindbom of Fairfield, Mrs. J. E. Long and Mrs. F. F. Fishel of Batavia, Mrs. J. D. Barber of Galesburg, Ill., and Mrs. W. W. MARIES RITES YESTERDAY Beckwith Woman Was Buried at the Brethren Cemetery Near Libertyville Many relatives and friends attended the last rites for Mrs. D. E. Maries of Beckwith which were held yesterday afternoon at 2 oclock from the Hoskins funeral home in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith of the Methodist church. Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand and Mrs. Albert Johnson with Miss Reva Patten at the piano sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Going Down the Valley One by One." The casket was carried to the grave by Claude Bellamy, L.V. Stufflebeam, L. L. Lipps, Everett Lindbom, I.E. Maries and Kenneth Barber, all relatives of the deceased. Burial was made in the Brethren cemetery west of Libertyville. There were many beautiful floral pieces sent by relatives and friends. Among those attending the funeral were - Mr. and Mrs. John Barber and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bellamy of Galesburg,Ill., Mr.and Mrs. L.L. Lipps and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lindbom and family of Fairfield, Mrs. Frank Fishel of Batavia and Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Fresh and Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Stufflebeam of Bloomfield. Mrs. Sam Barber of Galesburg, Ill., Mrs. Laura Shipler and son Homer of Ottumwa, Mrs. Carl Walker of Batavia, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Long and daughter Wanda of near Batavia, Mr. and Mrs. C. Laughlin and Mrs. Layle (sic. ??) Shipler of near County Line, Mr. and Mrs. David Bush of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. John Peebler of near County Line, Miss Ila Barber and Mrs. W. H. Hampton of Fairfield and Mr. and Mrs. John Crawford of near Libertyville. ---------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday May 18, 1929 Pg. 5 Col. 2 & 2 OBITUARY Mrs. D. E. Maries Cynthia Ann Shipler was born on Nov. 12, 1865 (sic. inscription rounded up to 1866, however), and passed away at her home in Beckwith, May 15, 1929 at the age of 64 years 8 months and 3 days. She united in marriage to D. E. Maries (sic) March 13, 1895. To this union were five children, all were at her bedside at the time of her death. She had been in ill health for the past four years, but bore her sufferings with out the least complaint. She was a kind and loving mother and was loved by all who knew her. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Shipler. She also leaves to mourn her departure her husband and five children, Mrs. B. B. Fresh and Mrs. L. V. Stufflebeam of Bloomfield, Ia.; Dona (sic. Donna), Iris and Leo at home. She also leaves 4 grand children, and the following sisters - Mrs. O. F. Lindbom of Fairfield; Mrs. J. E. Long of Batavia; Mrs. F. E. Fishel of Batavia; Mrs. J. D. Barber of Galseburg, Ill.; Mrs. W. W. James of Clear Lake, Iowa. Her father, mother, five brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 oclock from the Hoskins Funeral home in Fairfield be Dr. U. S. Smith of the Methodist church. Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrand and Mrs. Albert Johnson sang, "Going Down the Valley One by One," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," accompanied on the piano by Miss Reva Patten.
