Description	:	Cynthia Ann (Sollars) Stewart was born 1822 in Ross County, Ohio to Azariah and Mary (Waggoner) Sollars. She married Alexander Canada Stewart on 23 May 1841. Cynthia died in 1896 in Council Grove, Kansas. Alexander Canada Stewart was born on a ship coming from Scotland to Canada. Sometimes he used PA as his birthplace but he was born at sea. They had seven children: 1. Read More	Cynthia Ann (Sollars) Stewart was born 1822 in Ross County, Ohio to Azariah and Mary (Waggoner) Sollars. She married Alexander Canada Stewart on 23 May 1841. Cynthia died in 1896 in Council Grove, Kansas. Alexander Canada Stewart was born on a ship coming from Scotland to Canada. Sometimes he used PA as his birthplace but he was born at sea. They had seven children: 1. John Washington Stewart - b. 05/08/1842 Eugene, ID d. 4/29/1916 Dotsero, CO, who married Delsie Belle Martin who had Carlton Stewart (my grandfather) as well as Claude, Edna, Maude, and their first born Audra which was the first white child born in Eagle County, CO. The family records I have show that Delsie Belle Martin was half white/Indian and considered the only white woman between Fort Defiance and Edwards, CO. Her and John (Jack) Washington Stewart came down from Montana. 2. James Armour Stewart b. 2/12/1844 Eugene, ID d. 10/16/1916 Alta Vista KS 3. Eliza Jane Stewart b. 1846 Montrose, IA d. 1860? 4. Marshall Alexander Stewart 09/01/1849 Montrose IA d. 09/14/1920 Oak Creek, CO 5. Evaline Stewart b. 1853 Montrose, IA, no death date but married Lewis Leeman 08/12/1874 San Joaquin, CA 6. Fannie Stewart b. 1857 Montrose, IA d. Duragno, CO. married Joseph Putman 02/28/1875 San Joaquin, CA 7. and an infant who didn't survive. I believe they came to Dotsero much later. He died of heart failure in his home in Dotsero. He was the first person to be buried in Dotsero. He was bureied on a hillside along I-70. Later on the family made a small cemetery on the side of I-70 that has his son John Washington Stewart, and a few other relatives. John Washington Stewart owned the first recorded water rights on the Colorado River in Eagle County, CO." Following are the events of Alexander Canada's death written by Edna Stewart Lemon (one of Alexander & Cynthia's grandchildren) in 1969 as was told to her by her mother Delsie Belle Stewart. "Grandpa and Grandma (Alexander & Cynthia) were at Mama's (John Washington & Delsie Belle Stewart) house in the evening and Mama asked them to stay for supper. She was having new potatoes and peas creamed together, also corn bread. Grandpa was very fond of all of it. Grandpa said I'd sure like to stay but I've got to write to the girls, Fanny and Evaline. He says you'd better let us take Audra (Alexander & Cynthia's first grandchild) home with us, but Mama said no. So they went home. They lived across the Grand (Colorado) river. When they got home Grandpa got his writing material and started to write. An old fellow they both knew rode up and got off his horse and Grandpa stepped out and they sat down to talk. By the time they got through talking it was too late to write. Grandma was washing dishes so Grandpa said he was tired and was going to bed. Grandma finished the dishes and went in to go to bed. Grandpa wasn't asleep so they lay and talked a while. Grandpa gave a little cough and Grandma asked him something and he didn't answer. Grandma asked him again and he still didn't answer. She got up and lit a lamp and Grandpa was dead. So as there was no doctor within 50 miles or law of any kind, all they could do was bury him. He was the first person to be buried in Dotsero. There were 34 graves after he was buried. Men drowned, some froze to death, many blown up while they were building the railroad. Grandpa must have been awful tall because his grave is extra long.
