The collision occurred at 5:30 p.m. three to four miles west of St. Paul, he said. Field's car ended up on its top on the highway, while Thyne's car came to rest on its side in the south ditch, Murphy said. Thyne was transported to Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul, where she died, the sheriff said. Field was treated for cuts at the hospital and released. Both women wore seat belts, Murphy said. Howard County Attorney Karin Noakes requested an autopsy on Thyne. Murphy said it was being conducted at Douglas County Hospital in Omaha. One-lane traffic was maintained as it was diverted to the north shoulder, he said. The Howard County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol and St. Paul Police Department. Thyne, a Kearney State College graduate, worked as a substitute teacher in Central Nebraska. She had been a fourth-grade teacher at St. Libory Elementary School for nearly three years.
