She was the daughter of John and Sarah Gwinn and was one of a family of thirteen children. On Feb. 10, 1848 she was united in marriage to Samuel Gwinn, to this union eleven children were born, four of whom are still living, namely; Andrew J. Gwinn of Lucas, Mrs. Rachel Snook of Derby, Mrs. Irene Lowe and Mrs. Mado Davidson of Humeston. Mrs. Gwinn and her husband came to this country in 1848 and have lived here ever since that time with the exception of a few months they spent in Wapello county. Mr. Samuel Gwinn died about thirty-three years ago. She joined the Methodist church when but a young girl in West Virginia and has lived loyal to her church since that time. She was one of the charter members of the Humeston M.E. Church when the church was located where the Humeston cemetery now stands. The deceased came to this country in its beginning and endured the hardships and enjoyed the pleasures of a new country. She lived a christian life and a perfectly happy death, being conscious until the last. She leaves three daughters and one son besides eighteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home in the presence of a great congregation of friends and neighbors, by the pastor of Humeston M.E. Church, Rev. J.S. Young, and the remains were laid to rest in the Gwinn cemetery.
