She was born on March 7, 1923, in Warthen, GA., the daughter of the late Linton Jodie Brown and the late Bertha Locklin Brown. She was a graduate of Washington County High School, and in 1940 entered Georgia State College for Women. A year later, with three brothers in military service, she was drawn by the war effort of WWII to serve her country as a civilian employee in the office of the US Army Medical Services. She continued her service with the federal government until she married in 1947. In 1971 she was appointed executive director of the N.C. Board of Architecture. Concurrently she served as executive secretary of the Southern Conference of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards consisting of seven southern states from 1979 to 1986. Her civic activity included community service with the Girl Scouts, the Cub Scouts, and Myrtle Underwood PTA. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and was actively in evolved in the work of the Women of the Church, and also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for this work. She was also a volunteer at Rx Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Lloyd J. Skidmore, Jr., US Army Retired; two daughters, Susan B. Skidmore, and Elizabeth "Cissy" Skidmore Bodenstine, son-in-law, Dr. Thomas R. Bodenstine; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Bodenstine , James Skidmore Bodenstine, and Hugh Carlon Bodenstine; and great grand-daughter, Natalie G. Bodenstine. She was preceded in death by her son, Lloyd J. Skidmore III. The memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, at First Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Zeitler and his staff for their loving care over the years and a special thank you to April Ellis, Mary Whitley, Kujay Janneh and Paulina Amankwah for the special care that was given over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, NC 27605 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601.
