Description	:	Cyril "Cy" G Habel 86, formerly of Balltown and Sunset Park Place, entered his heavenly home Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 9:30 p.m. at Stonehill Care Center. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown, with Rev. Jose L. Comparan officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Balltown, where military rites will be accorded by the V.F.W, New Vienna. Cy was born on April 4, 1927, son of John and Veronica (Hansen), Habel. He married Florence Cummer on October 25, 1949, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Balltown. His soul mate/love of his life preceded him in death on June 13, 2007. Cy was a WWII veteran serving as a private first class with the United States Army from June 2, 1945 to November 22, 1946 in the infantry as a light truck driver in the Fourth Constabulary Squadron. Cy was employed as a farmhand in his youth and then was employed by A.Y. McDonald's retiring from John Deere Dubuque Works in 1988, after more than 30 years of service as a foundry laborer and a machine test driver on the experimental farm. Cy was a lifetime member of St. Francis Parish, Balltown. He was also a member of the Balltown Lion's Club, the New Vienna VFW, Dubuque American Legion, U.A.W. 94, Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. Cy was known for his great sense of humor, his love of guitar playing and sing-a-longs. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and Florence loved traveling, and he especially loved the yearly family fishing trips. Surviving is a daughter, Judy (Steve) Dupont , of Sherrill, and their children, Stacy (Mike) Francois, Sarah (T.J.) Leslein, Susan (Brian) Galle and grandchildren, Alyssa and Olivia Francois, Kora and Brooklyn Leslein, and Blake, Grant and Payton Galle; a son, Steve (Mary) Habel, of Dyersville, their children, Jennifer Kelchen and Laura (Sean) Gallagher, grandchildren, Cody and Cade Kelchen, Connor Brown, and Manus Gallagher and future baby Gallagher arriving in February, and 1 great-great granddaughter, Aubree; daughter, Jean (Randy) Gaul, of Farley, their children, Jamie (Tom) Boge and Becky (Jed) Hurst, grandchildren Raegan and Noah Boge, Nora and Archer Hurst; a son, Dan (Sue) Habel, of Sherrill, their children, Chris (Emily) Habel, Jodi (Jay) Neuses and Amanda (Damian) Waid, their grandchildren, Audrey, Madelyn, and Owen Habel; daughter, Carol (Brian) Gaul, of Holy Cross, Iowa, their children, Nick (Rosie) Gaul, Matt (friend Manessa) Gaul, Tanya Gaul and Holly Gaul, their grandchildren, Dierks and Levi Gaul, Zach and Leanna Gaul; son Jeff "Irv" Habel, of Balltown. He is also survived by his brother Benny (Kathleen) Habel, of North Buena Vista, two sisters, Stella McDermott, of Benton, Wisc., and Darlene (Loras) Clemen, of Dubuque; in-laws, Myrtle (Vic) Leibfried, of Dubuque, Laverne "Honey" Cummer, of Dubuque, Evelyn Specht, of Sherrill, Lucille Brimeyer, of Dubuque, and two brothers-in-law, Bill (Marge) Cummer, of Sherrill, and Leon Cummer, of Balltown. Cy was also preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Rose Habel; a brother-in-law, James "Bert" McDermott; in-laws, Arnold and Lorene Gansemer, Marie and Donald Hannan, Norbert and Marcella Schueller, John and Dorothy Markham, Jack Specht, Norbert Cummer, Glen Stoffel, and Robert Brimeyer.
