"Cy" homesteaded with his family in Elrose; Saskatchewan, Canada. He also lived in Seattle; King County, Washington for seven years. "Cy" also lived in Whittier; Hardin County, Iowa and Long Beach; Los Angeles County, California for 16 years. He returned to Iowa in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1942. After three years he was discharged and awarded the Bronze Star.... Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Cyrus "Cy" H. Bryngelson was born on Friday; January 18, 1907 near Dunbar; Marshall County, Iowa. He was the son of: Henry and Amelia (Norland) Bryngelson. "Cy" homesteaded with his family in Elrose; Saskatchewan, Canada. He also lived in Seattle; King County, Washington for seven years. "Cy" also lived in Whittier; Hardin County, Iowa and Long Beach; Los Angeles County, California for 16 years. He returned to Iowa in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January of 1942. After three years he was discharged and awarded the Bronze Star. On Friday; July 10, 1942 he married Eleanor Tucker of Boston; Suffolk County, Massachusetts and returned to Iowa in 1945. Together they operated the Dunbar General Store for nine years, a coffee shop and the local telephone office in Dunbar. He also ran the Conoco Gas Station and was a school bus driver for Dunbar Consolidated School. He also worked for the Marshalltown Western Auto Store and later Jensen Ford for 10 years. After retiring, they moved to LeGrand in 1974 and then to the Iowa Veterans Home in 1985. He was a member of the Stavanger Friends Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion. "Cy" will be remembered for his charming manner, thoughtfulness, his wonderful smile, his sharp wit, sense of humor, generosity and his ability to become everyone's friend. Cyrus "Cy" H. Bryngelson, age 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday; February 15, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His nieces: Clarice (Wes) Roseland of rural Marshalltown, Iowa and Linda (Marvin) Marks of California. His six great nephews; four great-nieces; several great- great-nieces and nephews. The Newell and Jean Drury family, who adopted him as a "grandpa" in his latter years. Also many, many friends and acquaintances from the Iowa Veterans Home and the surrounding area. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife: Eleanor in 1995. Also his two sisters: Mabel (Clarence) Carlson in 2005 and Helen (William) Marks in 2008. May they rest in peace. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Malloy LRC Room at the Iowa Veterans Home, with Pastor Jim Bonser of Stavanger Friends Church and Chaplin Craig Nelson of IVH officiating. His body was deeded to the University of Iowa School of Medicine. Memorials in "Cy's" honor may be directed to Iowa Hospice, Iowa River Hospice or a charity of your choice.
