Description	:	Cyrus Mills, son of Enoch and Mary Mills, was born in Ohio, January 15, 1826. He was united in marriage to Susannah Jay, according to the rites of the Friends church under the auspices of Fairfield monthly meeting, Indiana, October 23, 1844. They removed to Iowa in 1953, where he entered land in Union township, Dallas County, joining Bear Creek meeting house grounds south of Redfield. Read More	Cyrus Mills, son of Enoch and Mary Mills, was born in Ohio, January 15, 1826. He was united in marriage to Susannah Jay, according to the rites of the Friends church under the auspices of Fairfield monthly meeting, Indiana, October 23, 1844. They removed to Iowa in 1953, where he entered land in Union township, Dallas County, joining Bear Creek meeting house grounds south of Redfield. He was a pioneer farmer and worked hard in subduing the soil, and was frugal and saving. A few years later he sold his farm in Dallas County and bought his brother, Milton Mills' farm, in Lincoln township Adair County. He lived there until after Stuart was founded, then sold his farm and moved into town. He has resided here ever since on north Sherman Street. Two weeks ago he was taken seriously ill with pneumonia and all that could be done by loving hands and willing hearts was done. He passed away Saturday, March 21 as the hour of twelve was struck. His wife had preceded him to glory four years ealier, 1909. They had nine children born to them and all are living except the eldest daughter, who was the wife of Harmon Cook and died in Florida 27 years ago. His children were called and all were present when he passed over to the other side. They are Elijah Mills, Beaver City NE, Enoch Mills, Adel, IA, Layton Mills, Bear Creek, IA, James and Alonzo Mills of Stuart; Mrs. Lydia A Griffith, Storm Lake Ia, Mrs. John Mills and Mrs. Thomas Conner, Stuart, IA. In additin to the 8 children there are 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. His sons were the pall bearers and a large concourse of friends and neighbors gathered at the cemetery at Bear Creek in plain sight of the first farm he entered in Iowa 55 years ago. He wa a brother of Milton Mills, now of Dexter, who was the pioneer of Lincoln township, Adair County. He was a conservative friend and was universally beloved by all. He had taken great comfort in the last few years from the hymn, "We Shall Know as We are Known", and always was ready to hear his granddaughter play and sing. Contributor: JeanE Mark Cyrus and Susannah Mills' daughter Lucinda, was born September 17, 1845 Hendricks Co., IN and married Harmon Cook. She died May 25, 1881 near Leesburg, Lake Co., Florida. Her death is documented in the June 16, 1881 issue of The Christian Worker.
