Baer, 76, a lifelong resident of the Ransom community, died at the Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 1963, following a one-car accident just north of Ransom just before noon Tuesday. Baer, 76, a lifelong resident of the Ransom community, died at the Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 1963, following a one-car accident just north of Ransom just before noon Tuesday. Mrs. Baer, riding alone in the car and returning to Ransom on a County road, in some manner lost control of her car. The car went into the road ditch, turned on its side and then skidded across the road where it came to rest. Trooper Dan Bailey, who was summoned to the scene, reported that it was apparent that the Baer car went out of control prior to the time it crashed into the ditch, but no cause of the accident was determined. Mrs. Baer was taken to the hospital at Ransom, suffering with broken bones and bruises. However, at first her condition was not thought critical. A short time after arrival at the hospital her condition worsened, and death came about 4:00 o’clock, five hours after the accident. Mrs. Baer was born at Cyrus in Trego County on November 24, 1886. She married William F. Baer at Ransom in 1906. He preceded her in death in 1944. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles Jones of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. James Hobson of Fullerton, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Zella Clawson and Mrs. Grace LaPlante, both of Ransom; a brother, Ward Scott of Ransom; two half-brothers, Kenneth Scott of Gunnison, Colo., and Ralph Scott of Ransom; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Fitzgerald’s in charge of arrangements, announced Wednesday morning that funeral services will be held on Friday morning, June 28, at 10:00 o’clock, the place to be announced later, pending arrival of the daughters from California. Scott, daughter of William A. and Phebe Scott, was born at Cyrus, Trego County, Kansas, on November 24, 1886, and passed away at the Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom on June 25, 1963, at the age of 76 years and 7 months. She was united in marriage to William F. Baer December 24, 1906. No children were born to this union, but they reared two of his nieces, Dorothy and Willa, whom they considered and loved as their own daughters. The deceased lived practically all her life in Ness County, residing in her present home in Ransom for the past 57 years. Since two years after the death of her husband in 1944 her brother, Ward has made his home with her. In early womanhood she became a member of the church of Christ which has received her whole-hearted and unstinting support through the generous giving of money, time, talent and energy throughout her life. All who knew her attest to the fact that her life was exemplary in its acceptance and practice of the teaching of Christ. Scarcely a day went by that she did not perform some act of Christian love, and she faithfully attended all services of the church. Over the years her community was richly blessed by her presence, and the memory will serve as an inspiration to all to strive harder to live more in accordance with the Christian ideals she so earnestly followed. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six brothers and one sister. Those left to mourn her loss include Willa and Charles Jones, Dorothy and James Hobson, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ward Scott; two sisters, Zella Clawson and Grace LaPlante; two half-brothers, Kenneth and Ralph Scott and wives; a sister-in-law, Bertha Scott; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
