BRADFORD Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home for Mrs. Daisy Smith Bradford, 97, who died Saturday at Crescent Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. Mrs. Bradford, widow of William H. Bradford, son of the founder of the H.E. Bradford Knitting Mill, was born in Castleton May 13, 1877 to Albert H. and Mary Ann (Ames) Smith. She received her education at the Castleton Normal School and was a schoolteacher in Pawlet for a short time before moving to Bennington to live with her aunts, Carrie Ames and Della Ames. She was married in 1900, and was active for many years in community affairs, particularly the Red Cross during the First and Second World Wars. She was an original member of the Bennington Garden Club, and her garden and flowers gave pleasure to many in the area. She was an early member of the Putnam Memorial Hospital Woman's Auxillary, the King's Daughters and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington and was affliated with St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Castleton. She leaves a son, Henry E. Bradford, a daughter, Helen Caroline, died in infancy. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the funeral home office.
