Read More	Special to The Emporia Gazette; Emporia, Lyon Co., KS: Burns are Fatal to an Americus Victim Dale Humphrey, 21, Dies in Hospital Here After Gasoline Tank Truck is Destroyed by Flames Dale Humphrey, 21, son of Mrs. Elsie Humphrey, of Americus, died in the Newman Hospital at 3:14 o'clock this morning as a result of burns received at Americus shortly before 6 o'clock Wednesday evening. Humphrey, who drove a gasoline truck for the Thomas Sexton station, was at the station with the truck and had just about completed filling the tank when from some unknown cause the gasoline burst into flames. Humphrey, with his clothing ablaze, ran toward Mr. Sexton, who was in the station, and Mr. Sexton with the help of Dean Ames removed the burning clothing. Mr. Sexton then boarded the truck and drove it to a vacant lot where it was consumed by fire, but with no explosion. Humphrey was taken to the hospital in an ambulance which had been summoned from Emporia. The lower part of his body was badly burned. Mr. Sexton suffered burns on both hands. Dale Albert Humphrey was born in Lyndon March 19, 1925 and came to Americus with his parents when he was 6 or 7 years of age. His father, James Humphrey, died a few years ago. Dale Humphrey was graduated from the Americus Rural High School before entering the service. He served in the Navy as a Seaman 1c and spent two years in the Pacific area. He was discharged last January 24. He was a member of the Americus United Presbyterian church. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Wilbur, and three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Duff, Lyndon; Mrs. Gladys Price, Topeka: and Mrs. Treva Luginsland, who lives near Americus. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Americus Presbyterian Church. The Rev. J. W. Wallace will conduct the services and burial will be in the Americus cemetery.
