Description	:	Coon Rapids Enterprise June 23, 1960 Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Huffman Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Dean Augustus, 86, who died Sunday at her home after an Illness of several weeks. The Rev. Earl E. Josten was in charge of the service, Mrs. John J. Rogers was organist, Mrs. Roswell Jordan and Wayne Textor sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Bernlce Dale Plerson was born May 14, 1874 at Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Electa Plerson. She came to Coon Rapids with her family at three years of age, growing to young womanhood here. November 5, 1899 she married Alpheus Dean Augustus at Star Methodist Church. He was Scranton town marshal three years and farmed east of Scranton for many more years. The young couple sang in the choir and Mrs. Augustus played the organ for some time at Star. Coming from a musical family, many hours were spent in playing and singing, with the Pierson orchestral group to lead the "sings" as the folks gathered In one school house after another for singing schools and literary meetings. With the exception of the time spent in homesteadlng in Colorado, the family has lived in the Coon Rapids community since 1912. In 1925 they moved to town and have lived In Coon Rapids since that date. She is survived by five children: Mrs. Ray (Alta) Behrens of Jefferson; Albert of Coon Rapids; Eugene of Omaha, Nebr., William of Coon Rapids and Ray Johnson of Scranton, by a previous marriage. There are 24 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren. A daughter, Alma, preceded her mother in death. Mrs. Augustus was a member of the First Methodist Church.
