Dale grew up near Mina on the farm started by his grandfather. He graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1958. He continued his educationat North Dakota State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry in 1962. After college, Dale toured Europe for three weeks and lived in Los Angeles for a year before returning to the ranch in Mina. In 1969, he married Linda Owen and together had a daughter, Brandi Brooks. In 1985, Dale married Linda VanDover, and together they grew the ranch. They raised limousin cattle, and Dale was named the Heartland Limousin Association Commercial Producer of the Year in 2006. Dale loved raising cattle and being a steward of the environment. He appreciated the opportunity to care for the land before passing it to the next generation. Dale was active in the community. He served on the Pembrook Township Board for 34 years and on the Edmunds County Extension Board for five years. In his free time, Dale enjoyed making people laugh, fishing, playing cards and singing. Grateful for having shared Dale’s life are his daughter, Brandi Brooks (Tim Losch); four stepsons: Garret Hulshof, Scott Hulshof, Paul Larson and David Larson (Denise Ross); and five grandchildren. Three sisters: Helen Yetter, Cherie (Mike) Reilly, and Linda (Al) Faas; and one brother, Jerry (Peggy) Brooks, also mourn Dale's passing. Dale was proceeded in death by both of his parents and by his sister, Donna Brooks Ericksen; a brother-in-law, Keith Yetter and a nephew, Brad Yetter.
